Lewis Tabor blanked the Terriers on just four hits, striking out three and walking none. The game was scoreless through eight, as Terrier starter Dick Bell matched Tabor in putting up zeros despite allowing several hits. USC finally broke through in the top of the ninth with speedy Billy Lowry getting things started with a single to center followed by a steal of second. Gene Robinson beat out a bunt, moving Lowry to third. Robinson moved to second on a ground out that held Lowry at third, but shortstop Ben Joe Williams doubled to right center, scoring both runners. Third baseman Rock Stroud made it back to back doubles, bringing Williams in for a third run. A Wofford error allowed Stroud to score, then Tabor shut down the Terriers in the ninth for the shutout.
