1969 - The Gamecocks ended the game on a 10-2 run to come from behind and knock off Maryland 69-67 and move into second place in the ACC. Carolina had held a 33-30 lead at the half, but Terrapins forward Will Hetzel led a strong second half that saw Maryland up 65-59 going into the game's final two minutes. USC had also lost starter Bobby Cremins to a sprained ankle, further damaging the chances of a victory. USC came back and tied things at 65, then the game turned on a foul call as Carolina's Billy Walsh was fouled by Mickey Wiles of Maryland. Wiles responded by tossing the basketball in the air, drawing a technical. Walsh made his free throws and then John Roche hit two free throws for the technical, putting the Gamecocks up by four and the Terps were never able to get closer than that. Roche led the scoring with 27 points, while Tom Owens added 11 and Walsh 14.
