2006 - Dave Odom's Gamecock squad made it two consecutive NIT titles, becoming only the second school in history (St. John's did it in 1943 and 1944) to accomplish that feat. After an early Michigan rally that cut USC's lead to 24-21 Carolina went on a 13-6 run and never was in danger again. A 39-27 halftime lead ended as a comfortable 76-64 win. Tarence Kinsey (21 points) and Tre Kelly (20) led the scoring, while Renaldo Balkman was named tournament MVP, climaxing with a 10 point, 11 rebound, 6 block title game. The win was Odom's 100th as head man for the Gamecocks.
