Today's Date In Gamecock History
April 16th
2008 - Senior pitcher Nick Godwin beat Clemson for the second time in a week, this time hurling 7 2/3 innings of shutout ball in a 6-0 win on the road. A James Darnell sacrifice fly got USC up 1-0 in the first and the Gamecocks broke the game open with a five run fourth inning. LF Justin Hopper and 2B Scott Wingo hit back to back homers that frame, while Reese Havens and Whit Merrifield generated another run with back to back doubles. Godwin allowed just three hits and Craig Thomas came on for the final inning and a third to close things out. Godwin was honored after the game with the Tom Price Award which went to the outstanding player in the USC-Clemson series that year.
