2004 - Simpsonville's Matt Campbell put on one of the finest pitching performances in school history as he blanked Alabama for ten innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out ten. The 10th ranked Gamecocks eventually squeezed a run out in the bottom of the tenth as shortstop Steven Tolleson lined a two-out single into right field to bring in Michael Campbell. The game was Campbell's first career shutout and impressed his coach, Ray Tanner. 'That's one of the most impressive performances by a pitcher I've ever seen anywhere' said Tanner. Campbell's record improved to 6-2 while USC stood at 29-11.
1972 - Junior left-hander Allan Hilliard turned in a dominant performance in shutting out The Citadel 6-0. Hilliard tied the school record by striking out 17 Bulldogs in the game, a record set earlier in the year by teammate George Beam. Hilliard amaingly struck out the first ten batters he faced and also struck out the side in the sixth inning. The win improved Hilliard's record on the year to 2-2 while USC improved to 21-13 while recording the ninth shutout of the year for the Gamecock pitching staff.
